Member firms can be of any size and cover sectors as
diverse as - banks, insurance companies, brokers, fund managers, building
societies - in fact anyone who uses market data services. Suppliers of
Market Data services, such as exchanges, vendors and consultancy firms, are not eligible for membership of IPUG at this time.
Membership of IPUG entitles delegates from member
firms to:
1. Attend our general membership meetings
– General meetings:
- usually
occur
every three months
- last
about three hours
- provide
a wonderful opportunity to meet with your peers from other
organisations
- summarise
progress with suppliers and SIGs in the last quarter (see below)
- identify
further areas to be addressed on behalf of the membership
- provide
an open forum for the discussion of any issue a member wishes to bring
to the table
- provide
the opportunity for a member firm or an invited supplier to present to the membership
2. Attend Special Interest Groups (SIGs) – SIGS:
- are
formed at the request of the membership to resolve a pressing issue
with a supplier. Or, if a supplier is deemed critical to a large part
of the membership, a SIG may be formed to monitor the vendor on an
ongoing basis
- meet
outside of the general meetings, perhaps as often as every two months
depending on the level of activity or member demand
- provide
focused discussion forums for interested subsets of members
- are
open to any IPUG delegate
Currently, IPUG runs vendor focused SIG groups for
Reuters, Bloomberg and Thomson, and topic focused groups for Buyside, Thin
Client and Exchanges
3. Access to the IPUG Executive, formed from senior
members of the Market Data Industry. Contact details are as published on
the Executive Committee page of the website.
4. Access to your peers for pressing issues – any
member may send an email to the IPUG general address if they have a question about a product or a
problem they are encountering.
5. Access to the members area of the IPUG website –
www.ipug.org . The IPUG website is updated regularly with market news, key
diary dates and minutes from the special interest groups, general meetings
etc.
6. Receive the regular newsletter (issued
approximately monthly)
7. Avail of privileged offers from third parties –
in practice these tend to be rare as IPUG seeks to be impartial in its
dealing with suppliers
