The Information Providers User Group (IPUG) was launched in
1989 as a non-profit making organisation, run by members to represent the
current and future interests of its member firms. It is now the principal
organisation in the UK representing users of Market Data services on a
technical, administrative and strategic level.
IPUG has strong working relationships with the major
real-time information service vendors such as Reuters, Thomson Financial and
Bloomberg. These working relationships enhance and support the traditional
relationship which each Market Data manager maintains with their own suppliers
by using the membership’s collective voice to focus the supplier on generic
issues affecting all users. IPUG is recognised by these vendors as the users’
legitimate voice, and is often consulted and asked to contribute to supplier
policy decisions which affect the membership. The list of suppliers with which
IPUG maintains direct relationships changes depending on changes in the
marketplace and the wishes of the membership.
In line with its commitment to represent new industry trends, IPUG is always
seeking to monitor the technology and business process developments which affect
the industry. Some examples of this are Thin Client and the impact of the Myners
Report.
